一、在什么情况下需要研究进展信

       研究进展信是申请者主动提交给申请学校的补充材料，其目的就是为了让评审委员会的教授能够清楚地了解申请者在寄出申请材料之后到申请结果出来之前这段时间里面所做的研究。这个研究必须是和申请的专业密切相关的，而且是比较大型的。能够增加申请者申请成功的砝码。

二、研究进展信的组成和写作技巧

       研究进展信一般由两部分组成，一封是自己的汇报信，另外一份是教授为证明申请者所说属实而提供的support letter。

       作为自荐的那封信语气一般要比较客观，真实；教授的那封推荐信一般要在中肯之中体现出通过这个项目他对你的欣赏。

下面是两封示范：

自荐：

Dear Sir or Madam:

Thanks a lot for your kind help on my application. I am looking forward to your admission. It will be my great honor to be your renowned program of economics.

Excitements came one after another in the past few months. After xxx papers went to press, my paper on Industrial Cluster was recommended by my advisor to a famous international journal of economics, “xxx” in October last year. This year, I was invited to an international research project, “A Work Program on Poverty Analysis for China”, as the only undergraduate member of the research group. This project is a division of a cross-border academic campaign, which is led by xxxx, title. I finished the draft of China Proposal of this project and worked on data collection and analysis.

I have asked the professor in charge my current research group, xxx, to write an additional letter of recommendation to keep you informed of my recent progress in research. Moreover, I am committed to fulfill the mission of the merit-based scholarships, to be dedicated to the economics research purposed to improve the world. It is also highly appreciated that you can aid me in the form of research assistant, which I have sound experiences with skills accumulated.

It is my greatest pleasure to recommend to you a groundbreaking young lady, Miss Sun Hanlin. She was known in the Economics Department of Peking University as early as she was a junior student. It was the first time in the department history that a research group, presided by an Associate Dean and consisted of graduate students, was called up to further develop a research paper “Mechanism of property Right-External Just in Time”. This paper was a production of Miss sun, a female junior student.

Now, Miss Sun is assisting me, together with two excellent graduate students, in the project “A Work Program on Poverty Analysis for China”, which is a group of “The Study of International Economics Relations” (University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada) conducted under the IDRC MIMAP program.
