It is well known that we should not hesitate to say “No” on many occasions. The truth of it is self-evident. No one can deny that when we are unable to offer help, we should say “No”. Therefore, a direct reply “No” should be used to avoid misunderstanding among us.

Many examples, however, can be found to prove that it is not easy to say “No”. Take our reply to others’ request as a typical example. People prefer to say “Yes” for fear of hurting others when they should say “No”. Furthermore, people usually think refusal means inability.
